The CASS UDX webinar last week was interesting: The State of AI Use among Research Software Engineers. People surveyed are “curious, but cautious” about generative AI tools.

I was kinda disappointed there wasn’t more on the ethics of resource use by gen AI.
Interesting! On a similar topic, I learnt today that the Alliance for Data Science and AI (ADSA) have just released a position statement of gen AI use in the RSE workspace: rse-ai-position-statement/RSE-AI-Final_Statement.md at main · Academic-Data-Science-Alliance/rse-ai-position-statement · GitHub. There might be a few familiar names on the list (like @jmarshrossney!).
The SSI is also in the throws of setting up a study group focussing on responsible AI use, and one of the themes it will focus on is resource use.
It seems there’s lots going on it this space - it’s definitely a hot topic!
Oh, cool! Thanks for linking to this position statement, Sam. I’m happy people are putting thought into the use of GenAI tools, and providing some guidance.
The first speaker in the webinar is from ADSA, and he referenced the RSE survey in his presentation.
